Web Developers Association appoints General Manager
The Web Developers Association of New Zealand (WDANZ) has appointed IT Professional John Jones as General Manager of its business services.
WDANZ was established on 4th July 2006, by web developer and entrepreneur Dennis Smith, and has seen steady growth with 230 members nationwide. Smith says that he is happy with the take-up from the industry, and expects their membership to be around 300 by the end of the year."We are still in growth mode, but we already have a range of Joint Ventures and business partnerships designed to service the needs of our members. John will be running the business side of things under our Gold Tick brand," he says.
Smith says that he has kept WDANZ to a membership-only organisation with the various Joint Ventures and business services in a separate company, Gold Tick Services Ltd.
Jones has a long career in the IT industry in a variety of technical and management positions, including National Course Co-ordinator at NatColl, where he was responsible for developing the Web Design curriculum.
About the new role Jones says, "While I have a technical background I enjoy contact with a variety of people within the industry. My role will be to work with the many sectors of the industry and build upon the pioneering work of the first year. The industry partnerships we have are unique and in due course each of them will offer the industry great services."
According to Smith, appointing a General Manager will lift the organisation to a new level, enabling WDANZ to pursue additional strategic relationships with non-IT organisations.
"The first year we have been naturally more focussed on the IT industry, building and servicing our membership," he says. "Our second year will see us increasing our presence in the retail space, spearheaded with a series of business events, called "Internet UNMASKED!!" that are scheduled for nationwide roll-out from February 2008.
